Helen DeVitt Jones Endowed Honors Scholarship
The Helen DeVitt Jones Scholarship is a competitive academic scholarship limited to students applying to or actively participating in Wayland’s Honors Program. Recipients of the scholarship will be named Helen DeVitt Jones Scholars, or may simply be referred to as Jones Scholars. The scholarship is not limited to tuition and can apply to the student’s total financial bill.
The scholarship recipient will generally be selected in the first/freshman year of enrollment, with the recipient eligible for scholarship renewal for up to three additional years or a total of eight long terms. (A summer session may substitute for a long term if needed and approved by the Director of the Honors Program.)
Qualifications/eligibility criteria:
1. In general, only one student per each new fall class of Honors Program applicants may be selected by the Honors Council as a new Jones Scholar and receive the scholarship.
a. Current participants in good standing in the Honors Program may be selected as Jones Scholars if/when funding allows and at the discretion of members of the Honors Council.
2. Students selected by the Honors Council as Jones Scholars will exceed the minimum Honors Program qualifications as noted in the University Catalog:
a. top quarter of high school graduating class
b. minimum B average in high school work (3.0)
c. minimum cumulative ACT of 25, SAT of 1100, or CLT of 78
3. Students selected by the Honors Council as Jones Scholars should show distinction among Honors Program applicants (or current participants) in one or more of the following ways:
a. valedictorian of high school class
b. highest cumulative GPA of applicants (or participants)
c. highest or exceptional standardized test scores of applicants (or participants)
4. For continuation/renewal of the scholarship (up to four years or eight long terms maximum—with a summer session substituting for a long term if needed and approved by the Director of the Honors Program), Jones Scholars must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6.
